The Flirt

In plan secundar apare prietena sa (sau ma rog, prietena-lui-doar-pentru-sex) Leticia, o tanara creatoare de lenjerie custom made.

When I left for Greece, I packed two rather easy to read novels: The Flirt, by Katheleen Tessaro and Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (I didn’t finish this one yet, I got stuck at the praying part). The first one, however, is the one I’d like to talk about. As you may have guessed, the whole narrative revolves around the art of flirting. To be more precise, it reffers to some top secret society that supposedly hires young, attractive, irresitible young men that should flirt with women who have lost the confidence in themselves. The check comes, amazingly, from the husbands, who want their marriage to come back to normal and find the women they had fallen in love with in the first place.
Hughie is one of the recently-hired men of the ocmpany. He’s supposed to be an actor, but apparently cannot find his purpose in life. The job suits him well, I say. In the background, we find his girlfriend (or more accurately, I’d say his f&*^%-friend, pardon my french, it’s how they call it in the book!) Leticia who owns a designer lingerie shop. I’d say this was my favourite part: custom made lingerie with only the finest materials, made to entice and show the female body at its best. My dream job, I’d say! Also, we meet Rose, a waitress with hidden artistic abilities, a plumber who becomes all hot and sexy overnight, some unfulfilled wife of a very rich guy who knows nothing about her or her needs, Hughies mother, sister and new friends in the flirt business.
Actually, this is one part of the book I didn’t pretty much enjoy: the fact that everything is supposed to be all messy at first and gradually untangle but it does so in a quite obvious, unimpressive way. All in all, we get a few flirting techniques, some useless sex scenes (really had nothing to do with the actual narrative line but they were there anyway), 2 wonderful ways of conquering a woman’s heart (with letters and flowers and champagne and everything) and some getting out of the closet. Perfect for a holiday read, but don’t expect any revelations or lifelessons to be learned. You can find it on Amazon (check out my new widget!) for 6 pounds. Enjoy!
