Bare with me…

Posted on | October 7, 2010 | No Comments

Yes, I’ve been a terrible blogger. Yes, I’ve been doing a lot this summer but that’s not really an excuse. And the blog is about to become a new, culinary oriented one, since when I looked through its pages I realised, well, that it’s a blog about food, with little bits about other stuff in it. So why even bother :) . So bare with me, I’m gonna be back real soon with all that’s been up in my kitchen lately. And hopefully, by the end of this year, there’ll be a new kitchen to report from.

“What’s in the Fridge” Pasta

(by popular demand :P )

Well, I think the title sums up rather well what this dish is about: pasta with uhm, whatever you’ve got left in the fridge, that will make the most amazing yummy sauce. Tadaaaah :)

Anyway, from the top, you will need:

about 10 mushrooms, 1 little pot of crème fraîche, 1-2 bell peppers (preferably red, they are a little bit sweeter), 2 chicken breasts (or boneless chicken thighs) cut into bite-sized pieces, one small onion, a few garlic cloves (depending on the size and on how garlicky you want the end result to be, plenty of fresh, chopped parsley, pasta (I used tagliatelle), olive oil, salt, pepper, chilli flakes (for a spicy edge), 1/2 glass of white wine (you can use chicken broth instead, but I prefer it like this).

OK, for the actual cooking part: first, you need to chop all your ingredients nicely into small pieces. I highly recommend doing this at first, since the process is rather fast.

Put a big pan of water on the stove, with a lug of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon juice. When it boils, add a good pinch of salt, stir, add your pasta and cook it according to packet instructions.

Get yourself a large, deep frying pan (not a wok though, I am not sure it would work properly), add 1-2 good lugs of olive oil and let it heat up a bit. Add your onion (this one needs to be chopped more finely) and garlic (also finely chopped) and give them a good stir. When they start to get a little bit of colour, add your chicken bits and brown evenly on all sides. Add your mushrooms, peppers (maybe some zucchini if you like) and give everything a good stir. Add your wine and let the alcohol cook off. All in all the process should take around 10 minutes, in which time the chicken should be well cooked through.

Season everything well, with salt, pepper, chilli flakes (I think I added more than was needed but it was really nice and flavourful. I also added hot and smoky salt from Jamie Oliver’s range instead of regular salt, so that may also be the reason for the extra spiciness. After seasoning, all you need is to add the nice crème fraîche and give everything another stir. Add the parsley, taste, season accordingly. Strain your pasta and add it to the sauce, let he flavours combine for 2 minutes. Well, that’s it. Yumminess on a plate.

Bon appetit ;)

Cadbury’s Gorilla

…winner of Cannes Lions 2008 Grand Prix, this ad continues to amaze me. It took a while for me to like it, I now love it and hmmm, look for Cadbury whenever I have the chance. I probably would’ve done that anyway though :) .

Enjoy the ad, enjoy the music ;)

…Italy ❤

I think i may be exaggerating with the ❤. Anyway, I remembered this wonderful campaign for Italian beer Peroni yesterday and I tried to get hold of it as soon as I could. As an hommage to Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, the brand positions itself as a luxury, maybe more-for-women beer. OK, I have obviously studied too much strategic advertising today, so I’ll just let you watch it. Really beautiful. I must confess that if I would drink beer, I would definitely drink Peroni. It’s really a shame they don’t have it in Switzerland (the ad clip, I mean). Enjoy!

…Oh, and I ❤ the fountain dress…

The Emperor’s New Groove…

Oh dear, I just realized this movie is 10 years old and I just got around to seeing it, thanks Bakor by the way ;) . But if you’re like me, a little behind with Disney movies and trying to catch up, I must definitely, definitely recommend it. Funny, witty, full of really cool jokes for grownups and kids alike. Really, this is a movie for us all when we need a good laugh.
Long story short, spoiled and egocentric emperor Kuzco is turned by mistake into a llama by his ex-administrator, Yzma. You see, she was trying to kill him. Also, by a series of fortunate events he gets to meet Pacha, a sweet and kind llama herder who agrees to help him. Ok, so it’s a kids’ story, not an Oscar movie. However, the plot is incredibly well written, the characters are funny and charming, even the songs are kinda cool. I swear, after watching Avatar the day before, it was nice to see that there are still movies out there with a decent script. And Tom Jones is pretty cool too.

All in all? Highly recommended. Wether you have children or not, it really is worth your while if what you’re looking for is fun, lighthearted comedy. Oh, and you have some cute bonus games on the DVD,too! ❀

Oh, and if you were wondering, this is the first Disney movie in history to show a pregnant woman. Cool, huh?!
